Finca Castellon, Quindio, Colombia – Natural CM Geisha

– “A complex and crystal clear with intense floral aromatics Geisha lot grown and processed by pioneer producer Jairo Arcila”.

Tasting Notes

Passion fruit, papaya, magnolia. Sweet and juicy with orange wine complexity and intense floral character.

About this coffee

This micro-lot is 100% Geisha. This variety was first discovered in Abyssinia, Ethiopia in 1931 and thereafter Geisha was planted in Panama. This lot was exposed to aerobic fermentation for 24 hours, followed by extended Carbonic Maceration fermentation in tanks for 50 hours with flushed C02 maintaining temperature below 22C. And finally the coffee was placed on raised beds at a temperature below 35C until ideal moisture content was achieved. The Carbonic Maceration really takes the Geisha varietal to the next level resulting in a truly amazing with intense florals flavour profile, almost like drinking super complex crystal clear orange wine.

Producer Notes

Jairo Arcila is a third generation coffee grower in Quindio, Colombia. Married to Luz Helena Salazar they had two children together: Carlos and Felipe Arcila, the co-founders of Cofinet. Jairo bought his first coffee farm, Finca La Esmeralda in 1987, where he planted his first Caturra lot. Using his savings Jairo slowly managed to purchase several additional farms. First Villarazo, then Mazatlan, Santa Monica, Maracay, Buenos Aires, Castellon. In 2014, Jairo leased his brother’s farm, Finca Castellon to plant Gesha trees. Becoming one of two farmers to grow the variety in the region at the time. After the success of his Gesha after the first harvest, Jairo decided to plant more exotic varieties like Pink Bourbon and Tabi at his farm Finca Villarazo. And has recently planted 3000 Java trees. He has planted native tree species in Santa Monica, Castellon and Bueno Aires, which creates shade, better soil quality and protection for Geshas, Tabis and Javas planted at altitudes below 1500 masl. In addition to cultivating coffee, Jairo and Luz Helena also grow mandarin, oranges and cherimoya.
