Wadi Alsail, East Haraz, Yemen – Natural Ja’adi & Dawari

– “A rare and exotic Yemeni heirlooms lot produced by cousins farmers Mustafa and Rajih – in collaboration with our dear friends Mocha Hunters”.

Tasting Notes

Dates, nougat, almond butter. Sweet and rich with buttery mouthfeel and remarkable depth of distinct flavour.

About this coffee

This is a pico-lot of two Yemeni heirloom varieties – Ja’adi & Dawari. The coffee cherries are carefully picked by hand and graded by colour and size and then slow dried on raised beds for 30 days. During the drying process, the moisture content is carefully monitored and the coffee cherries are turned regularly in order to achieve even and stable drying and moisture content. This simple yet precise natural processing in combination with the Yemeni terror and varieties results in a truly unique cup profile with distinct flavour and aromas like something we have never tasted before.

Producer Notes

This coffee comes from small farms in a valley called Wadi Alsail in East Haraz region, the name Wadi Alsail translates to “The Torrent Valley” where rain water passes through coming down from the encircling mountains. The valley is located in between three mountains/villages. The valley swigged of bushes of two Yemen varietal which enhanced the complex relish, both are amongst the oldest in Yemen. Thanks to the cousin farmers Mustafa and Rajih for looking after the coffee trees and in keeping improving the quality and sustainability that they inherited from their ancestors over 500 years through many generations. Mocha Hunters have been working side by side with farmers and producers in Haraz region through the open innovation approach by sharing knowledge, visiting, sample roasting and cupping in order to improve quality and keep consistency as the centre of attention and connecting farmers and roasters to share and understand both worlds.
